Breast Cancer Death Rate

State: Hawaii
Measurement Period: 2013
This indicator shows the age-adjusted death rate due to breast cancer among females (ICD-10 code C50).

Why is this important?

Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women in the US. Over the course of a lifetime, 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Women who never gave birth, had children after 30 years of age, or who have a family history of the disease are at an increased risk. The US Preventive Services Task Force recommends screening mammograms every 2 years for women ages 50-74.  Women with an elevated risk may decide to have mammograms earlier and/or more often.
