Pregnancies Among Females Aged 15-19 Years

State: Hawaii
Measurement Period: 2022
This indicator shows the number of pregnancies per 1,000 females aged 15-19 years.  Pregnancies include live births, fetal deaths, and induced abortions.

Why is this important?

Parenting at any age can be challenging, but it can be particularly difficult for adolescent parents. Childbearing during adolescence negatively affects the parents, their children, and society. The children of teenage mothers are more likely to have lower school achievement and to drop out of high school, have more health problems, be incarcerated at some time during adolescence, give birth as a teenager, and face unemployment as a young adult.
