Pregnancies that Are Intended

Select a County
Measurement Period: 2022
This indicator shows the percent of intended pregnancies among live births. An intended pregnancy is one in which the person reported that they were trying to get pregnant at the time of conception.

Why is this important?

Unintended pregnancy is associated with an increased risk of morbidity for women, and with health behaviors during pregnancy that are associated with adverse effects. For example, women with an unintended pregnancy may delay prenatal care, which may affect the health of the infant. Women of all ages may have unintended pregnancies, but some groups are at a higher risk. Efforts to decrease unintended pregnancy include finding better forms of contraception, and increasing contraceptive use and adherence.
