This indicator shows the state tax per pack of cigarettes in Hawai‘i.
Why is this important?
Increasing the price of tobacco products can reduce tobacco use by discouraging initiation, prompting quit attempts, and reducing average tobacco consumption. While Federal and State excise taxes have increased substantially since 2000, continuing to raise the cost of tobacco products will help to reduce tobacco consumption in the population. An increase of 7.5¢ per cigarette or $1.50 per pack from the 2010 baseline would result in a tax of $4.10 per pack in Hawai‘i.
