Cancer Survivors Who Smoke Cigarettes or E-cigarettes

State: Hawaii
Measurement Period: 2022
This indicator shows the percent of adult cancer survivors who have smoked at least 100 cigarettes in their life and who report smoking cigarettes some days or every day or who report using e-cigarettes some days or every day.

Why is this important?

Tobacco use not only causes cancer but can also negativelty affect outcomes of cancer treatment and long-term survival. Tobacco use among survivors can increase the risk for poorer outcomes to treatment, cancer recurrence, and new cancer development. Quitting tobacco improves a survivor's prognosis, and those patients who receive advice about cessation are more likely to quit tobacco use.
