Teens Who Are Cyberbullied

Select a County
Measurement Period: 2021
This indicator shows the percentage of public school students in grades 9-12 who were electronically bullied, including bullying through email, chat rooms, instant messaging, web sites, or texting, in the past 12 months.

Why is this important?

Cyberbullying is bullying using electronic technology such as cell phones and computers.  It often occurs through social media sites, text messages, email, and web sites.  Unlike in-person bullying, cyberbullying can happen at any time and is often viewed by a large audience, making it much harder to get away from.  Kids who are cyberbullied are more likely to skip school, receive poor grades, and be bullied in person.  They are also more likely to use drugs or alcohol and to report low self-esteem and health problems.
