Adults Who Receive Free Food

Select a County
Measurement Period: 2021
This indicator shows the percent of adults who received free food from a food pantry, church, soup kitchen, or shelter in the past 12 months.

Why is this important?

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), there is a strong connection between hunger and chronic diseases like high blood pressure, heart disease, and diabetes. Chronic hunger can result in delayed development, even among adults. It negatively impacts a person's ability to learn and work, and can affect the immune system, making people more susceptible to disease.
